The Exterior
The exterior has a beautiful Walnut veneer and highly decorative brass and bone detail. It also has beautiful solid glass studs which have a metallic-like finish.
The box has its original brass lock and also its original brass hinges. These are quality stop hinges that prevent the lid from falling back.
The bottom of the box has its original fabric covering and original retailers label. Details of the retailer are given below.
Note
The lock is not functional and is therefore purely decorative. It comes with a 'dummy' key.
The Retailer
This box was retailed by Lambs Library in Malvern. This was a Royal Library and Fancy Goods Repository in the 19th century and its proprietor was Henry Lamb.
Laminated notes about the retailer will be sent to you with the box.
The Interior
The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a brand new hardwood storage tray with three compartments. The tray has been French polished and stained and has new padded green satin panels. It has green satin linings to the interior walls and green silk pull tabs for lifting out the tray. The base of the tray has a new green felt covering.
The inside of the lid and the base compartment have the same green satin panels and linings as the tray.
Note
The box will tip back when the storage tray is removed UNTIL the base compartment has jewellery inside it.

Condition
This fabulous box is in excellent condition for its 150 plus years of age. It is structurally sound and has no loss of veneer. There are a few splits to the bone decoration which are a result of shrinkage and not damage. There is minor age related wear to the veneer. The above is as we'd expect on a box of this age which has been loved and used for its purpose.
