Beautiful Artisan Art Deco inspired jewellery box. Made of a variety of hardwoods and stamped by its maker. Stepped 'Manhattan' design on the lid, inspired by the 1930s architecture of this New York borough.
This is a high quality, artisan, hand made jewellery box, with a very stylish Art Deco inspired design. It dates to the mid 1990s and is in excellent condition. The box is superbly made and shows off the skills and craftsmanship of the artisan. It is possibly a 'one off' bespoke box. We have certainly not seen another like it in recent years.
The Exterior
This box is made of a variety of hardwoods and has a beautiful inlaid frame on the lid. There is a fabulous large, raised and stepped, 'Manhattan' design on the lid and front of the box, inspired by the 1930s architecture of this New York borough.
The bottom of the box has a grey felt covering, and on the centre of this is the artisans stamp which is dated 10th July 1996.
The box has good quality brass hinges and a good quality slot in catch which is concealed when the box is closed.
The Interior
The interior has a removable storage tray with four compartments, and a larger single compartment is beneath this. The tray has an inlaid frame and a smaller 'Manhattan' feature, both complimentary to the design of the exterior. There are also wonderful dovetail joints on the tray.
The inside of the lid has beautiful inlaid Art Deco inspired motifs, made of various woods.
The compartments are unlined and you can therefore see the beautiful grain within the wood.
Condition
This box is in excellent condition. It is of sound structure and has very little wear.
The centre raised panel of the 'Manhattan' feature on the lid, may appear to some to have a fine hairline crack. This is in fact a separately placed piece of wood, making up the full panel.
