Beautiful small antique pine jewellery box, circa 1890/1900.
This is a beautiful little antique jewellery box, dating to 1890/1900. It is made of pine and has been rejuvenated by our wonderful skilled box restorer. The pine exterior has been newly French polished and also stained. There is some beautiful figuration and natural characteristic features to the pine. These include lovely knots which are visible on the back of the box and an obvious wider striation on the lid.
The box is complete with its original brass lock and stop hinges. These prevent the lid from falling right back. It is also complete with its original key and decorative brass keyhole escutcheon.
The Interior
The interior is complete with its original storage tray. This has 2 small and narrow side compartments (ideal for little pieces of jewellery such as earrings), a centre compartment with a circular ring which was originally designed to hold a pocket watch (now ideal for storing a locket or a pendant), and a little ring storage section.
Beneath the storage tray which is removable is a larger single storage compartment. This compartment, as well as the inside of the lid, and the side compartments in the tray, have new padded satin panels. The ring storage section and centre compartment in the tray are complete with their original velvet coverings. The tray's exterior, the interior walls, and the bottom of the box, all have their original leather linings/coverings. That to the tray is detailed with gold painted trim.
Condition
This charming little box is in excellent condition for its 110/120 years of age. It is structurally sound and has only minor light wear.
There is some more prominent wear to the leather covering on the bottom of the box. This is natural wear from handling and from movement across furniture. This is as we'd expect on such an old box and we've left it in situ as it's a lovely original feature!
The lock is currently in good working order.
