Beautiful 1950s vintage musical jewellery box playing 'Cerisier Rose et Pommier Blanc' (Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White). Superb micro mosaic inlay and refurbished satin lined interior.

This is a beautiful inlaid musical jewellery box, made in Italy in the 1950s. It has a beautiful newly refurbished interior and is complete with its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
The exterior has decorative micro mosaic inlay. The inlay to the lid has a beautiful tapestry-like appearance, and there is checkered and floral inlay to the front and sides.
The sides have a beautiful curved formation and the box stands raised on its original tapered resin feet.
The box is complete with its original working lock, key and piano hinge. This is a 'stop' hinge which prevents the lid from falling back.
The original song title label is on the bottom of the box. Details of the musical movement and tune are below.
About The Inlay
This box has an abundance of micro mosaic inlay, known as 'mosaic tesselated inlay'. This type of inlay is made up of 1000s of tiny pieces of wood, painstakingly put together to form intricate mosaic designs.
The Interior
The interior has two storage compartments which have been newly refurbished by our skilled box restorer. There is a shallow compartment on the left (which has the musical movement beneath it) and a deeper compartment on the right.
The base of the deep compartment has a new padded satin panel, and the ledge of the shallow compartment has a new satin covering. The satin is a lovely teal blue shade.
The interior walls have new paper linings. This is a quality patterned paper which is a mid-blue shade with white polka dots. The paper has a lovely 1950s Italian feel.
The inside of the lid has its original inset bevelled mirror. There is a lovely inlaid frame around the mirror.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful tune 'Cerisier Rose Et Pommier Blanc'. The English translation of this is 'Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White'.
The original music was composed by Louiguy in 1950. Its original (French) lyrics were written by Jacques Larue and Mack David wrote its original English lyrics.
The song has since been performed by numerous orchestras and artists including James Last, Bing Crosby and Pat Boone, and has featured in several films including Underwater! starring Jane Russell.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. 4 turns of the key are sufficient to wind up the musical movement. The movement is in good working order. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement is fully unwound.
Notes About Locks And Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning.

We are not responsible for locks or movements that malfunction from further age and use, once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock and movement are working as soon as you receive your box.

Condition
This lovely box is in good condition for its 60-70 years of age.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
There is minor age related wear/fading of colour to the wood as we'd expect on a box of this age.
There are some light superficial scratches on the back of the box.
The interior linings, being new, are in excellent unused condition.
The mirror is still nice and clear and has no chips or cracks.
The lock, hinge and movement are in good working order.
