This is a beautiful Victorian Rosewood jewellery box, dating to 1860/1870. Its interior has been fully refurbished by our skilled box restorer and the box is complete with its original working lock.
The Exterior
The exterior has a lovely Rosewood veneer which has a beautiful deep colour and lovely figuration. There is a decorative Mother of Pearl cartouche to the lid and a complimentary Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box is complete with its original working lock and its original 'stop' hinges. These are quality solid brass hinges which hold the lid upright. The lock is fitted with a genuine Victorian replacement key.
There is a felt covering on the bottom of the box which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has been fully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a new hardwood storage tray at the top and its original large single compartment beneath this.
The tray has been French polished and stained. It has metal handles and a new felt covering on the bottom. It has two compartments with different widths, the lengths of which are ideal for laying out chains and necklaces. The bases of both compartments have new padded satin panels and their interior walls have new satin linings.
The base of the lower compartment and the inside of the lid, also have new satin panels. That to the compartment is padded. The walls of the lower compartment have new quality paper linings, and the walls inside the lid have new silver foil linings. The foil linings have replaced the originals which were worn and they beautifully reflect the colour of the satin inside the lid.
All of the satin is a stunning emerald green shade and it gives the interior a very luxurious feel.
The lower compartment is large and spacious, deep and roomy enough for large pieces of jewellery such as bangles, watches and beads etc.

Condition
This fabulous box is in excellent condition. It has sound structure and no cracks. All of the Mother of Pearl is present and intact.
The interior linings, being new, are in clean unworn condition.
The hinges and lock are still in very good working order.

We would like to make you aware that antique locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
