The lid has an inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and the keyhole has a matching escutcheon. Both have a stylish elongated diamond shape and beautiful inlaid borders.
There are beautiful broad bands of inlay to both the lid and front of the box. The inlay has superb geometric shapes with a three-dimensional effect. These beautiful inlaid bands are known as 'Berlin Strapwork'.
All of the beautiful inlay on the box is set flush into the Walnut veneer. It consists of several varieties of wood.

The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished and looks absolutely beautiful! All of this work has been carried out by our skilled box restorer.
The box has a new removable storage tray which has been beautifully French polished and stained. The tray has four storage compartments of varying shapes and sizes. The front compartment is the ideal shape and size for laying out chains and necklaces. The rear compartments are an ideal size for small pieces of jewellery such as rings, brooches, earrings and pendants.
There is a large deep and roomy single compartment beneath the storage tray. This will hold a vast amount of jewellery, including large pieces such as bangles/bracelets, watches and beads.
All of the compartments, plus the inside of the lid, have new high-quality padded satin panels. The interior walls of the storage tray have new high-quality satin linings. The satin panel within the lid is beautifully finished with dark blue silk cord trim. All of the satin is a beautiful teal blue shade.
The interior walls of the lower compartment and the walls inside the lid, all have new high-quality printed paper linings. The paper is light blue with a white foliate pattern.
The bottom of the storage tray has a new felt covering which matches that on the bottom of the box. The tray has blue silk ribbon pull tabs which enable it to be lifted out with ease.

Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition with only minor light wear from age and use.
The hinges and lock are still in great working order. The key securely locks the box.
All of the interior satin and paper linings are in beautiful, clean, unworn condition.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
There are a couple of teeny chips of veneer missing, to the front left bottom corner and rear right bottom corner. These aren't overly noticeable.
There is a minor fine hairline crack to the rear left side of the lid, again not very noticeable.
The small flaws detailed above are as we'd expect on a box of this age which has been loved and used.
