Beautiful 1940s vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. Beautiful marquetry and micro mosaic inlay. Beautiful newly refurbished satin lined interior. Working lock and key.

This is a beautiful vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1940s and has a wonderful newly refurbished interior.
The Exterior
This beautiful box is made of Mahogany and various other hardwoods.
There is foliate marquetry inlay on the lid, surrounded by a frame of further inlay. There is also symmetrical inlay to the bottom edges of the lock keep and compartments. There is also beautiful micro mosaic inlaid flowers, running along the edges of the bottom of the box.
A description of the micro mosaic inlay is given below.
The lid is complete with its original 'stop' hinges which hold the lid upright.
The box is complete with its original working lock and key.
About The Mosaic Inlay
The beautiful mosaic inlay on this box is known as 'mosaic tesselated inlay'. It is made up of 1000s of tiny pieces of wood, painstakingly put together to form intricate mosaic designs.
The Interior
The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. There are two swing opening compartments at the top and a further larger compartment beneath these. The bases of all compartments have new padded satin panels and the walls have beautiful new quality paper linings.
The paper is a lovely pastel blue shade with a white polka dot pattern. The satin is a lovely mid blue shade.
The inside of the lid has its original inset oval mirror. This is surrounded by two oval inlaid frames.
The compartments have their original hinges.

Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition. It is structurally sound and free from damage.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
The interior linings, being new, are in pristine unworn condition.
The mirror is lovely with no chips or cracks. It has a small amount of foxing as we'd expect with its age.
The hinges are still in perfect working order and the box locks securely.
