Please contact us if you are looking for a similar box and we will endeavour to source one for you!
This is a beautiful late Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1890/1900. It has a lovely newly refurbished interior and its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
The front and lid of this beautiful box have alternating inlaid bands of exotic Amboyna wood and Satinwood. These beautiful bands are bordered with pewter stringing and framed with rare Kingwood inlay.
The sides and back are beautifully veneered with Satinwood that has stunning vertical stripes.
The entire box has wonderful rolled edges which have a beautiful dark ebonised finish.
There is a lovely bone inlaid escutcheon to the keyhole and the box is complete with its original working brass lock and key. It also has its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright.
The bottom of the box has a new blue felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished, partly by one of its previous owners and partly by our own skilled box restorer.
The interior has a single large and deep compartment. Our restorer has added beautiful padded satin panels to both the base of the compartment and the inside of the lid. The satin is a lovely mid-grey shade. The interior walls have smart patterned paper linings which were added before we acquired the box.
The compartment is very spacious and will hold a vast collection of jewellery, including large pieces such as broad bangles, beads and watches.

Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition with only minor light wear from age and use.
The hinges and lock are still in great working order. The key securely locks the box.
All of the veneers, inlays and pewter stringing are present and intact.
The padded satin panels, being new, are in superb clean and unworn condition. There are a few light creases within the paper linings.
There is a tiny piece of the ebonised finish missing to the front left corner of the lid. There is some minor fine gapping between some of the Kingwood inlay. These slight flaws are barely visible but have been pointed out for an accurate and honest description of the condition.

Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
