Lovely late Victorian jewellery box with a burgundy leather finish. Circa 1890/1900. Solid brass handle and keyhole escutcheon. Original silk and velvet lined interior. Original working lock and key.

This is a beautiful antique jewellery box which was made in the late Victorian period. It is complete with its original working lock and key and also its original silk linings.
The Exterior
This box has a burgundy leather finish which has a textured crosshatch pattern and embossed gold detail.
The lid has a solid brass swing handle and plate. The keyhole has a complementary brass escutcheon.
The box has its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original working lock and key.
The Interior
The interior has its original storage tray at the top and a larger single compartment beneath.
The tray has four compartments of various shapes and sizes, plus two ring storage sections.
All of the compartments, plus the inside of the lid, have their original burgundy padded satin panels.
The ring storage sections have their original burgundy velvet coverings.
The exterior and interior walls of the tray, plus the interior walls of the box, all have a black textured leather finish. The tray also has black leather pull tabs which enable you to lift it out of the box with ease.
Condition
This box is in lovely condition for its age. The leather has some light age-related wear and a few minor small scuffs. The leather covering on the bottom of the box has wear from age and friction.
The interior satin linings and velvet coverings are still in excellent condition! They are neatly fitted and very clean.
There is some age-related wear and tarnish to the brass.
The handle, hinges and escutcheon are still completely secure.
The box locks securely.
