This is a beautifully refurbished vintage jewellery box from the Black Forest region. It has its original working lock and key and is in wonderful condition.
The Exterior
This box has stunning 3-dimensional carved features. There are beautiful Edelweiss flowers positioned high upon the lid and beautiful Ivy leaves to the front and sides. All of these have been crisply carved and detailed.
The wood surrounding the Edelweiss is beautifully patterned and has a stylish carved frame.
There is a beautiful stepped design to the edges of the lid and the box has a beautifully shaped plinth base.
As you can see, the workmanship of this box is of a very high standard.
The box is complete with its original brass hinges and its original working brass lock and key. The lock is a quality French lock. Details of this are given below.
The bottom of the box has a new felt lining which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
Date/Region
This box dates to the 1930s. The Edelweiss flowers suggest that it was possibly made in Austria, the Edelweiss being the national flower of this country.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment which has been fully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. It has a new padded satin panel in the base and new satin linings to the walls. The satin is a beautiful teal blue shade.
About The French Lock
This beautiful box has a quality French lock which was designed to deter thieves from stealing its contents. It was cleverly designed so that its key could be turned TWICE, to both lock and unlock the box. The idea was that an intruder would believe the lock to be faulty when it did not open upon just one turn. The lock can, however, be operated with just one turn, and we recommend this to prevent undue wear.

We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.

Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition. It is structurally sound and has only minor light wear. This is commensurate with age and honest use.
The hinges and lock are in very good working order.
The interior linings, being new, are in superb clean unused condition.
