Rare vintage Harrod's Jewellery box. Gold brushed velvet finish and a gold metal Elephant finial.
This is a lovely vintage jewellery box which was made in Italy for Harrods. It dates to the 1970s and is complete with its original key.
The Exterior
The exterior has a gold brushed velvet finish and a decorative trim around the base. The lid has a gold metal elephant finial and there is a gold metal leaf-shaped escutcheon to the lock.
The box is complete with its original key and tassel, the tassel being made of the same material that trims the box.
The box stands raised on gold metal lions paw feet and the lid of the box has a long gold metal piano hinge. This is a stop hinge which prevents the lid from extending too far back.
The bottom of the box has a black faux leather covering. This is stamped MADE IN ITALY FOR Harrods, in tooled gold script.
The Interior
The interior has five storage compartments which are lined with soft beige velvet.
The three rear compartments are of the same size and ideal for small pieces of jewellery such as rings, earrings and pendants.
The front rectangular compartment is the ideal shape and size for laying out chains and necklaces.
The wider rectangular compartment on the left, is a good shape and size for bangles, bracelets and watches.
Condition
This box is in very good condition with no splits or fraying to the velvet. There is slight stretching/rippling to the velvet on the lid but it doesn't look unsightly. There are some marks to the faux leather covering on the bottom of the box which are obviously not visible unless you turn the box over.
The lock and hinge are in good working order and the box locks securely with its key.
