Beautiful vintage musical jewellery box from Sorrento in Southern Italy. Pretty floral inlay to the lid and a high polished glossy finish. Soft red brushed felt linings. Plays 'Come Back to Sorrento'.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box, dating to the 1970s. It was made in Sorrento, in Southern Italy, and plays the beautiful tune 'Come Back to Sorrento'.
The Exterior
This box has a beautiful burl Maple veneer. The lid has stunning floral inlay and a lovely Mahogany veneered frame.
All of the wood has a high polished smooth and glossy finish.
The box is complete with its original gold metal piano hinge. It stands raised on its original tapered resin feet.
There is lovely curvature to the body of the box.
The bottom of the box has retained its original song title label.
The Interior
The interior has a single small storage compartment and the musical movement is cased to the right of this. The compartment and casing have plush brushed red felt linings.
The inside of the lid has a very beautiful glossy Mahogany veneered finish.
The Musical Movement
The movement is in perfect working order and plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Come back to Sorrento'. 'Torna a Surriento' (the original Italian title of this song) is a beautiful Neapolitan song which was composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis. The song has since been sung by numerous performers such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and each of the three tenors, to name just a few!
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. 6 turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed, or when the movement is fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements that may deteriorate or malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in excellent vintage condition with very little wear.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
The hinge is in very good working order.
The interior linings are neatly fitted. They are in lovely clean condition and have no splits or fraying.
